Bulgaria's Energy Minister predicts lower gas prices in October

The price of gas is expected to be lower in October, Bulgaria's caretaker Energy Minister Rosen Hristov announced in Brussels, where he participated in a meeting of EU energy ministers.

At the same time, Bulgargaz has submitted a proposal to reduce the price of fuel by nearly 30% from the current price. As the main reason for the price reduction, the minister pointed to the fact that the gas interconnector with Greece should be operational from October 1.

"Bulgaria is in the last stage of negotiations with several gas sources, other than Gazprom, with which prices are negotiated below those of the September supplies agreed by the previous government," said Rosen Hristov. According to him, the process of seeking a contact with Gazprom has not stopped.

"We continue to issue requests and be a viable party to the contract. One effect is to eventually resume supplies, and the other is to have a good position in case of possible arbitration," he said.

At the meeting of the energy ministers, the topic of why the caretaker government is trying to resume negotiations with Gazprom was not discussed, the minister said.
