The renovation of the emblematic Monument to the Assen Dynasty in the town of Veliko Tarnovo will last 10 days. The rivets holding the 33-meter sword in the middle of the monument will be replaced, said Deputy Mayor Neiko Genchev. Some of the 60,000 fasteners were damaged in 1985, when the monument was built in connection with the 800th anniversary of the Uprising of Asen and Peter.

The four bronze horsemen weigh between 9 and 11 tons. They were clamped to the ground with Japanese steel and are in excellent condition. "No other monument in Europe has been made under this technology. The special Japanese steel acts as a spring".
