A liturgy was served to mark the 130th anniversary since the laying of the foundation stone of the Bulgarian church “St. Stephen” in Istanbul, also known as the Iron Church. “St. Stephen Church is one of the symbols of the unity of the Bulgarian nation”, said Vice President Iliana Iotova, who heads the Bulgarian delegation. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartolomew I also attended the event.
Later, Vice President Iotova opened the new school year at the Bulgarian Sts Cyril and Methodius Sunday School in Istanbul, which is housed at the Bulgarian Exarchate in the Sisli area.
