The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament has approved a declaration that confirms the will of Bulgaria to join the Schengen area. Two MPs of "Vazrazhdane" in the committee voted against, while the remaining 13 MPs supported the texts proposed by the BSP. The socialists pointed out that if the majority of MPs in the parliament expressed support for the country's accession to Schengen, this would be a very good signal. The chairwoman of the committee, Ekaterina Zaharieva, pointed out that the adoption of such a declaration by the parliament was an important signal to the countries that remain skeptical.

At the same time, the European Commission called on the Council of the EU to take the necessary decisions without further delay in order to allow Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia to fully join the Schengen area.
