There are 325 centenarians in Bulgaria: NSI

A total of 325 centenarians are currently living in Bulgaria, including 242 women and 83 men, the BTA reported referring to data of the National Statistical Institute as of December 31, 2021. 222 centenarians live in the towns and 103 live in the villages. 4,958 people are aged between 95 and 99.

Physical activity and good food are the secrets to long life, a female centenarian from the village of Voynitsa, Vidin district, contends. Maria Kostova likes to eat everything she can grow in her garden, as well as meat and fish. On feast days she also drinks a glass of red wine mixed with lemonade. According to the inhabitants of the Rhodope Mountains, yoghurt consumption is the secret to longevity.
