The price of natural gas is to go up by around 19% in December. This was announced at a meeting of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. This means the selling price of one MWh will be around 145 Leva, not including taxes and charges.

Ivan Ivanov, chairman of the energy regulator stated the main reason for the price rise was the expensive amounts of gas in the underground gas storage facility at Chiren. The increased consumption of gas during winter also affects the price, which means a price hike is also expected in January. “The price I am expecting then will be a little higher but will be far from the 353 Leva per MWh reached in September,” Ivan Ivanov said, and added that the final decision will be made on 1 December.
