Pleven is marking 145 years since its liberation from Ottoman domination today, and 45 years since the construction of the Pleven Epopee 1877 panorama, the only one of its kind in the country.

Memorial services for the fallen heroes were conducted at the churches in the town. In his speech, Pleven Mayor Georg Spartanski said that the bones of the people who laid down their lives for the liberation were not arranged according to their nationality, and that they rested under one roof raised by the grateful people of Bulgaria.
