Ten European Union countries, including Bulgaria, have agreed to create an Alliance for Nuclear Energy, although Germany and Austria oppose its categorisation as climate-friendly.

This was stated by the ten member states in a joint statement signed on the sidelines of the meeting of European energy ministers in Stockholm, the Financial Times reports.

Bulgarian Energy Minister Rosen Hristov is in Stockholm, where he is attending an informal meeting of the EU's Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council. Bulgaria, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia are ready to support new nuclear projects based on innovative technologies as well as existing ones, BTA reported. "Nuclear power is one of many tools to achieve our climate goals by serving as a baseload generator of electricity and securing supply," the statement read.
