The central government debt as of end-January 2023 amounted to EUR 20.58 billion as compared to December 2022, which is an increase of EUR 1.95 billion, the Ministry of Finance reported. It is mainly due to the new debt assumed in January on the government securities market when the country sold government securities to the tune of EUR 1.5 billion with maturity of 10 years. Part of the new debt covered the budget deficit and the rest is in the fiscal reserve.

As regards the debt structure by instruments, as of 31 January 2023, the main share continues to belong to bonds issued on international capital markets – 56.3%, followed by government securities issued on the domestic market – 26.9%, and by government loans – 16.9%, the Ministry of Finance said.
