Between 15 February and 8 March, the Commission for Consumer Protection carried out 578 inspections. More than 540 violations were detected, Economy Minister Nikola Stoyanov told public broadcaster BNT.
216 of the violations were related to suspected unfair trade practices. 138 acts were issued. Most of them were for violations where the stand indicated that there was a discount, but the price at the checkout was not reduced. There were also problems with the weight of packaged products.
"There is a problem. It is not normal to have such a huge difference between the importer's or manufacturer's price and the final price. There are structural problems, our farmers get lower subsidies than those in Western Europe, we will ask for equalisation," the minister added.
