Work is underway on a proposal within the framework of a European directive to compensate for the high price of natural gas in the underground storage facility in Chiren, Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov said.

According to him, the expensive gas is still there. The purpose of the directive is to cover the difference between the price of the pumped gas and the current market price. The minister explained that Bulgaria had made a commitment to fill the gas storage that it has fulfilled. That is why such compensation is provided, as it was expected that there would be a price difference.
