In the next 30 days, over 1.8 billion Muslims around the world will mark the holy month of Ramadan (also known as Ramazan), observing strict fasting every day from dawn to sunset.

After sunset on March 22, the first prayer of the holy month was served in all mosques in Bulgaria. Ramadan is one of the three months of great importance for Muslims.

"It is the culmination of the pilgrimage and religious life we have throughout the year. Ramadan is a charge that each one of us needs," the Chief Mufti of Bulgaria Mustafa Hadji said in his message.

Traditionally, in this month, believers make charitable donations and organise dinners called iftar so that no one is left behind. The fast ends with the great religious holiday of Ramazan Bayram.
