Solidarity corridors are now channels for duty-free imports, Deputy Minister of Agricultute says

Bulgaria stands in solidarity with Ukraine and Ukrainian producers. Together with the EU, it has supported solidarity corridors as a tool to help fight hunger across the world. But these corridors are a channel for unprecedented duty-free imports into the EU, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Georgi Sabev said in Dobrich.

According to him, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia are "the biggest victims" of dumping. The import of corn and wheat is a problem for other countries, while the import of sunflower is the most problematic for Bulgaria. It has increased from 37,000 tons to more than 830,000 tons for a year, Sabev said and told the local farmers that Bulgaria would receive new compensations from the EU, above the promised 16.75 million euros. On March 29 and 31, grain producers are preparing protests against import dumping.
