EU Commission: Bulgaria has not yet submitted a formal request for renegotiation of the NRRP

Even if Bulgaria manages to renegotiate its National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), the climate neutrality targets must still be met, representatives of the European Commission told BNR. This means that Sofia must devote at least 37% of the plan's spending to tackling climate risks and implementing Bulgaria-specific recommendations. These are for decarbonisation of Bulgaria's economy, which is among the biggest emitters of carbon dioxide in the EU. Sofia has not yet formally submitted the renegotiation request, BNR correspondent Angelina Piskova reports from Brussels.
Energy Minister Rosen Hristov said he had asked the European Commission to renegotiate the commitment made by the government of Kiril Petkov to reduce carbon emissions in electricity generation by 40% by 2026.
