Since the beginning of the year, about 350 drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs have caused accidents. This is what Commissioner Dimitar Michev, head of the "Road Police" department in the Ministry of Interior told the BNR.

In the first 3 months of 2023, more than 2,400 cases of driving after the use of alcohol and more than 1,200 - after the use of drugs, were detected. In 32 of the cases, the use of both alcohol and drugs was detected.

Compared to the same period of 2022, the cases of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol are 5% more, and under the influence of drugs – 68% more, despite the permanent specialized police operation being conducted since the summer of 2022, which focuses on drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
