The repair of the four aggregates of the Chaira Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant will cost EUR 100 million.
Energy Minister Rossen Hristov visited the power plant today to discuss, with the management of the National Electricity Company, the state the facility is in, and the steps that need to be taken so it can be put back into exploitation. Two of the aggregates are in need of intermediate repair, but the other two must undergo a complete overhaul. Minister Hristov said he expected the repair work to be completed in 2025, and added that within two weeks experts from Toshiba, which was primarily involved in the construction of the facility, will visit the power plant and will give more specific opinions. The funding will not be from the state budget, with financing coming from the National Electrify Company and outside sources. In Minister Hristov’s words, the analysis of the causes of the damages to the aggregates is ongoing, with indirect losses from the emergency outage of the facility “running to millions a year.”
