R.I.P. Dachko, you will be missed by colleagues and listeners alike

Our long-time colleague in the Serbian-language editorial office of Radio Bulgaria, Yordan Petrov, known to all as Dachko, has left us.

A beautiful person and a dedicated professional, he devoted most of his life to the cause of Radio Bulgaria - to promote and disseminate Bulgarian culture around the world and to strengthen our good neighbourly relations with the countries of former Yugoslavia. He was a brilliant translator and a true journalist, and will remain in the hearts of every listener, every colleague with whom he shared good times and bad times.

As a tribute to Yordan Petrov, we offer you a recording of the broadcast in Serbian, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Radio Bulgaria, celebrated in 2007.

"The first successful attempts at radio broadcasting paved the way for national radio broadcasts abroad, known today as Radio Bulgaria. In fact, the idea for such broadcasts originated in the very year of BNR's establishment - on 25 January 1935, when Tsar Boris III signed a decree establishing Bulgarian National Radio. By another decree, Rodno Radio, launched in 1930, became state-owned. The state thus took over the construction of transmitters and the further development of radio in Bulgaria".

And here are the few words with which Dachko introduced himself, in that same festive broadcast 16 years ago:

"I am Yordan Petrov. I have been in the Serbian editorial office for 35 years now. I wish all our friends to continue listening to us so that they can learn more about us and our country."
