Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev announced that on Monday he will be summoned to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office to give explanations regarding an investigation into influence peddling. He said the probe was prompted by his statement on May 15, in which he said he would not resign and admitted there was political influence on the judiciary.
The prosecutor announced his upcoming questioning during debates in the SJC following a signal from his deputy Borislav Sarafov that, in violation of the Constitution, he had recorded Sarafo's conversation with member of the prosecutor's collegium, Yordan Stoev. According to Sarafov's claims, the chief prosecutor had said that he had over 150 recordings of conversations with politicians, magistrates and members of the SJC. Ivan Geshev replied that he was ready to give explanations, but after the hearing in the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, so as not to hinder the investigation.
