Caretaker Minister of Defense Dimitar Stoyanov refuted allegations that Bulgarian servicemen would be sent to Ukraine. "During the term of office of the caretaker cabinet, the Ministry of Defence never intended and never proposed to the Council of Ministers to make a decision about proposing to the National Assembly to send armed forces to Ukraine", Minister Stoyanov said at a hearing in parliament.
He noted that Bulgaria will send up to 50 servicemen as a training team under the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine), but on the territory of the EU member states. “Men between 20 and 30 years of age can not be mobilised, because they have not undergone military training”, Minister Stoyanov said in response to a question by Vazrazhdane party whether young people who have not completed military service could be mobilised if necessary.
