The European Commission has confirmed that EC President Ursula von der Leyen and Kiril Petkov have discussed important issues concerning Bulgaria, such as the country’s preparations for the Eurozone and for accession to the Schengen area, BNR’s correspondent in Brussels Anguelina Pioskova reports.
The European Commission states that the position of the president on both issues is very clear. She reaffirms her support for Bulgaria’s entry into Schengen. There is a very strict process of accession to the Eurozone, the EC goes on to explain, which is applied to all countries. The rules have to be observed.
The confirmation comes in the wake of the leaked audio recording in which Kiril Petkov is heard saying that Ursula von der Leyen assured him of Bulgaria’s chances of entering Schengen, and that she would “try to help Bulgaria” for the Eurozone.
