The Bulgarian athletes who took part in the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin (June 17-25) won 19 medals, out of which 5 gold and 5 silver.
At the large-scale sports event for people with intellectual disabilities, Bulgaria was represented by 39 athletes and their partners in 9 sports - athletics, bocce, badminton, equestrian, swimming, powerlifting, tennis, and also for the first time participated in a united team in 5x5 basketball (6 athletes with intellectual disabilities and 4 partners without intellectual disabilities) and field hockey (6 men and 4 women).
