The case with a helicopter that flew at a dangerously low altitude over Gradina Beach on the southern Black Sea coast on July 1 will lead to the dismissal of the Director General of the Civil Aviation Administration Hristo Shterionov. According to Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeikov, Hristo Shterionov is responsible because he did not inform him about the incident and did not take measures as a director of a supervising authority.
"The director of the Civil Aviation Administration will be released from his position," Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov told journalists after a meeting with Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov, where the case was discussed. According to him, the incident is against all the rules for this type of flight.
In an interview with bTV, Minister Gvozdeikov also confirmed the refusal of the transport ministry to rent two medical helicopters. According to Minister Gvozdeykov, there is no point in renting helicopters when the whole system, including trained medical teams and infrastructure, is not ready. In his words, Bulgaria will own its first medical helicopter at the end of 2023.
