National Assembly votes to establish a national register of cases of paedophilia

Photo: archive

The National Assembly voted to establish a National Register of cases of paedophilia. The amendment is part of the Protection from Domestic Violence Act, voted in Parliament at second reading. The register will cover cases of paedophilia committed on the territory of the country or in relation to Bulgarian citizens abroad who have sought help and support. The register must be set up within 12 months of the adoption of the texts.

Employers will now be able to refuse to employ convicted paedophiles when their activities involve children. A National Information System for the Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence is also being established. It will store data on cases of domestic violence in the country or in relation to Bulgarians abroad.
