The Ministry of Interior announced at a briefing that it is withdrawing confidence from chiefs of its directorate in Sofia due to shortcomings in their work. In the course of the pre-trial proceedings for a double murder on the territory of Sofia on August 5, it has been established that the suspect for the crime is the perpetrator of another premeditated murder from 2022, for causing death by negligence, the press centre of the Interior Ministry said.

In the current pre-trial proceedings, evidence has been received according to which it can be assumed that there were significant shortcomings in relation to the establishment of the factual situation and the acquisition of suitable evidence concerning an offence committed by the same person in April 2022.

One police chief has been reassigned to a lower position. Another one is leaving the system of the Ministry of Interior. Bulgaria’s acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has demanded the resignation of the head of the Sofia Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The bodies of an eighteen year old woman and a twenty seven year old man were found on August 5 near the village of Lozen not far from Sofia. Hours after the murders, committed in dispute over money, the killer was arrested and made a full confession.
