By 2030, nearly 12,000 people will have to be reassigned to new jobs due to declining demand for coal from the TPPs. This is according to the updated versions of the Fair Transition territorial plans for the districts of Stara Zagora, Pernik and Kyustendil, published for public debate.

The plan foresees the creation of a state enterprise "Conversion of Coal Areas", which would employ some of the miners and workers at the TPPs to recultivate lignite quarries.

On this occasion, the vice-president of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, Ognyan Atanasov, told BNR that priority should be given to measures aimed at creating jobs in advance and giving workers a choice.
