Two of the three Bulgarian citizens detained and charged with spying for Russia in the UK were members of sectional election commissions in London, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed. Katrin Ivanova and Biser Dzhambazov served as chairpersons of sectional election commissions at the last parliamentary elections. The two had previous experience of elections in 2017 and 2019.

Grubby guesthouse in Great Yarmouth 'was seaside spy headqurters for Russian 007', the British daily newspaper "The Times" wrote about Orlin Rusev, who is believed to be the leader of the spy ring. He included "007" in one of his email addresses. A room with equipment for making fake identity documents was found in the house presented as a three-star hotel "Haydee". The hotel is owned by 47-year-old Bulgarian businesswoman Irina Parvanova who bought it for GBP 220,000 in September 2021.
