Bulgaria's only gas storage facility "Chiren" is already filled to over 90% of its technical storage capacity. According to the executive director of the gas operator Bulgartransgaz, Vladimir Malinov, for the first time in the history of the operation of the storage facility, such a level of filling has been achieved at such an early stage.

The inflated quantities of gas will significantly contribute to guaranteeing the security of supplies during the upcoming autumn-winter season.

According to the European Regulation 2017/1938 on measures to guarantee the security of gas supplies, in order to guarantee the energy security of the EU countries, an obligation has been introduced for the storage facilities to be filled to 90% of their volume no later than November 1 this year .

Work is currently underway to expand the storage facility, which will ensure an increase in the volume of active gas to 1 billion cubic meters.
