Bulgaria supports the European future of the Republic of Albania because it is an important factor for the security and stability not only of the region, but of the whole of Europe. This message was delivered by Vice President Iliana Iotova during her meetings in Tirana with President Bajram Begay, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, Speaker of Parliament Lindita Nikolla and Interior Minister Taulant Balla. She pointed out that European membership will create many opportunities for the future of the two peoples.
A highlight of Iliana Iotova's talks was the upcoming population census in Albania. The Vice President received assurances from the local authorities that it will be conducted in accordance with the highest European standards - respecting the rights of all ethnic communities, including the Bulgarian one.

Possibilities for expanding trade and implementing a number of infrastructure projects, including the completion of Pan-European Transport Corridor № 8, were also discussed during the meetings.

In the field of culture, Iliana Iotova raised the issue of establishing national cultural centres in Sofia and Tirana.
