The Plum Festival is one of the most attractive autumn holidays, which is held annually at the end of September in Troyan. It is connected with the main livelihood of the Troyan region - the cultivation of plums, production of the Troyan plum brandy (slivova rakiya) and other plum products. This year the festival celebrates its 30th anniversary.

From September 22 to 24, the town of Troyan and the National Exhibition of Arts and Crafts in the neighboring village of Oreshak will welcome thousands of tourists. The three-day festive program will be saturated with culinary tastings, songs, dances and a lot of good mood.

Since ancient times, autumn was the time when the inhabitants of the Troyan villages boiled the brandy in large cauldrons. On this occasion, they organized a mass celebration. It was believed that if there were a lot of plums and brandy, the coming year would be fertile. That is why the people of the Troyan Balkan honoured and still honour the little blue fruit with lavish and noisy processions and banquets.
