Delaying changes in the justice system and in the energy sector in comlpiance with the Recovery, Resilience and Fair Transition to Decarbonisation Plan puts Bulgaria at risk of losing 700 million euros, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov warned.

The coal regions territorial transitions plan should be adopted by the government by 29 September, the prime minister said. Mr Denkov welcomed at the Council of Ministers the Commissioner for Innovation, Iliana Ivanova. Bulgaria is the only EU member state that has not submitted its territorial plans, Ms Ivanova stressed. "100 million euros are almost lost. Another 800 million are in question if this is not done in a timely manner," Ivanova said.

Speaking to protesters in Radnevo against a proposed fair transition plan for coal regions, Stara Zagora Mayor Zhivko Todorov said "this plan will create unemployment, chaos and problems". "The plan is formal, it has no indicators of how many jobs will be created, no financial justification, what projects will be financed and at what value," Todorov said
