Bulgaria's chess player Beloslava Krasteva failed to win the World Chess Championship for women under 20 played in Mexico City. In the last 11th game, she needed a draw to win the title, but she lost with the white pieces to the Argentinian Candela Guecamburu.

The 19-year-old Bulgarian player from Sofia, with seven wins, three draws and one loss, remained third in the final ranking.

Krasteva and Guecamburu finished the tournament with 8.5 points each, but the victory in the final game brought the gold to the Argentinean player. The silver went to American Carissa Yip, who also scored 8.5 points.

"I played a good game, but I made a gross mistake and then there was nothing I could do", Krasteva told the Bulgarian National Television, adding that she is ambitious to play in the tournament again in 2024.
