Stéfanie Stantcheva, professor of political economy at Harvard University, is one of two scientists who won this year's prestigious international Bright Mind Award. It will be presented to her at a ceremony in Berlin on November 14, reports The Harvard Gazette. The prize is awarded annually by the Berlin Social Science Center, recognizing young scientists who have made important contributions to political and economic reforms.

“I am truly honored to be one of the two inaugural recipients of the Bright Minds Award,” Stantcheva told the publication. “I am very happy that my work seeking to dive into people’s minds and better understand their perceptions, views, and beliefs is resonating with others.”

Born in Bulgaria's town of Krichim, Stantcheva joined the Faculty of Social Sciences at Harvard in 2016. She is a member of the French Council of Economic Analysis, which advises the French government. She is known for her research on taxation systems around the world.
