Bulgaria's national football team played a good match but ended with a 2-2 draw with Hungary in a European qualifier in Group G. Bulgaria slipped away with a first win of the year for only second after leading 2-1 until the end of the match but an own goal equalized.

For Hungary, the point is precious because it qualifies them for the European finals. Hungary remains at the top of the standings with 15 points. Bulgaria is last with 3 points.

The match took place against the background of a protest by fans against the management of the Bulgarian Football Union. In the center of Sofia near the stadium, the riots started before the match and continued until the very end. Police officers and football fans were injured.

The management of the Bulgarian Football Union who watched the match from the balcony of the stadium which was not open for audience refused to take responsibility for their actions that led to the protest.
