Two pre-trial proceedings for police violence have been opened at the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office in connection with the riots during the football fans' protest in Sofia on November 16, Deputy Prosecutor-General Maria Pavlova said today. Both are for assault. In one case, the complaint came from the injured person, in the second - a prosecutor has conducted a self-investigation based on media reports.
We would like to remind you that the football match between Bulgaria and Hungary on 16 November at the National Stadium in Sofia took place with no spectators present. At the same time, fans around the stadium were protesting against the Bulgarian Football Federation and the deteriorating state of Bulgarian football. As the protests escalated, 19 fans and 5 police officers were injured. 38 people were arrested on charges of vandalism.
