The Bulgarian government has approved changes to two regulations according to the requirements of the European directive for the unification of chargers. The European directive for introducing universal USB-C charger enters into force in 2025, and for laptops - in 2027. Manufacturers have also been preparing for the change and their latest models are already equipped with USB-C ports.
The unified charger will be used for phones, tablets, cameras, headphones, video game consoles, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, and more. The idea is creating more convenience for the users, but also reducing electronic waste. It is also planned that the customer would be able to buy a device without a charger. Merchants will be required to offer this option as well. This measure is also expected to reduce e-waste.
