Public opposition, political consequences of the demolition of the Soviet Army's memorial, expects President Radev

Commenting on the dismantling of the controversial Soviet Army monument in Sofia, President Rumen Radev stated that "the barbaric destruction of monuments is not only an attempt to erase history, but it also exacerbates public opposition".

"Those who have no solutions for the present and no vision for the future are at war with the past, Radev said. "Those who have attacked the symbols of statehood - National Day, the Bulgarian flag - and who are preparing to hijack the Constitution, are today cutting our history apart piece by piece. There is a deep public indignation that will inevitably have political consequences," the president added.

Meanwhile, on the evening of December 13, leaders and representatives of the Vazrazhdane party, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the Left and the Stand Up BG party held a protest near the monument to stop the dismantling.
