Bulgaria will use the European Commission as mediator in Schengen negotiations

"The strategy is to negotiate on the land borders; we have prepared a proposal that we are to send to Austria. We will use the European Commission as a mediator," Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov said in Brussels. Hungary has said that if we did not remove the gas tax, they would impose a veto on Bulgaria for Schengen. We decided not to risk, Denkov added.

Asked about the aid to Ukraine, which must be approved through an update of the EU budget, Denkov said: "If Ukraine falls, these costs that we are currently discussing will be many times smaller than what would be needed to prepare Europe for possible aggression, or rather to prevent a possible mistake". On the occasion of the parliamentary session interrupted by the opposition, the prime minister commented that this was not the right way to protest against a legal action.
