2023 was better for Bulgarians compared to the previous 3 years. Nearly two-thirds claim that they felt happy during the year, according to a representative survey by "Trend", commissioned by the "24 Chasa" daily.
In 2023, there was a 7% rise in Bulgarians' assessment of their personal happiness. The level of 64 percent is the same as that before the Covid pandemic. A positive change in people’s assessment of the country has been reported for the first time since 2020. The share of pessimists is 57%, but it has decreased by more than 20% compared to the previous 3 years. At the end of 2020, 12% said the year was good, while in 2023, 28 percent of the polled defined the year as a good one. 6 out of 10 Bulgarians assessed the year as good in personal terms. This has been the highest level since 2019. According to 1/3 of people 2023 has been bad.
Expectations for the coming year 2024 are rather positive. 40% think that Bulgaria is expecting a better year, and 29% foresee a worse one.
