Bulgarian MEP checks how long carriers have to wait at borders

A Bulgarian MEP took a night-time journey by truck in protest against Bulgaria’s not being admitted to the Schengen area. Andrey Novakov wants to show how long Bulgarian carriers have to wait at borders and how damaging not being admitted to Schengen is to them.

In an interview with Nova TV he stated, via video: “At the moment I am at the Serbia-Croatia border, at Batrovci border checkpoint. What I am seeing here defies the imagination. The line of vehicles will take at least two days. That is what “Air Schengen” looks like. It is about time Austria understood that. I will go to all problematic borders. The criticism levelled at Bulgaria connected with border security is ridiculous. The drivers here take turns sleeping to guard their trucks against migrants,” Andrey Novakov said.
