Human trafficking across the country's borders has halved since the middle of the year, General Directorate Combating Organised Crime Director Yavor Serafimov said for bTV. "There is no border in the world that cannot be crossed. The Bulgaria-Turkiye land border is the second busiest in the world and the busiest in Europe. In 2025 it is expected to become the busiest border in the world, Chief Commissioner Serafimov commented.

At the beginning of the year, the General Directorate Combating Organised Crime reported a 50% increase in migrants as compared to 2022. There have been days with 1,500 detained migrants. However, the curve was broken in September. The outflow is expected because it is no longer easy to cross the country’s interior. There are checkpoints near the borders with Romania and Serbia and raids are taking place. Human trafficking channels are currently routed through Greece and North Macedonia, said Yavor Serafimov.
