Price of natural gas to go down on account of warm winter

The price of natural gas will go down by about 11%, and in January its selling price is expected to drop below EUR 37 per MWh. This was announced at an open sitting of the energy watchdog, the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC), which discussed the new prices proposed by Bulgargas. The Commission’s chairman Ivan Ivanov said this was good news for consumers, but also for the district heating companies, because there will be no need for the prices of central heating and hot water to be reviewed in the middle of heating season. “Even though we are in mid-winter, when it is normal for the price of natural gas to go up on power exchanges, this year, because of the comparatively mild weather on the one hand, and on the other, because the gas storage facilities are full throughout Europe, the price on the international exchanges will go down,” said Energy and Water Regulatory Commission chairman Ivan Ivanov. The definitive decision on what the price of gas will be for next month will be made on 1 January, 2024.
