Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov presented Bulgaria at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he took part in a discussion “Europe's Rush to Innovate”.

To be successful, European scientists and innovators need to be allowed to experiment more so as to be successful in competition with the US and China, Nikolai Denkov said, and added that in science and in innovations, the opportunity to make more experiments, even if most are failures, is important for the final result, and that is why quick success should not determine the financing. It is important “not to pit basic and applied science against each other” – a principle that the US embraced and applied earlier than Europe, Nikolai Denkov said.
