At the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe taking place until January 26, a new commissioner for human rights is to be elected. The shortlist of candidates includes former Bulgarian European Commissioner Meglena Kuneva.
Kuneva's competitors are Manfred Nowak from Austria and Michael O'Flaherty from Ireland. The new holder of the position will take office on 1 April 2024, at the end of the current term of Commissioner Dunja Mijatović's.
