The first hospital heliport in Sofia is now registered according to the requirements of the European and Bulgarian legislation for registration of hospital heliports. It is located in St. Anna University Hospital in Sofia and will be included in the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) system, Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov said at the opening of the heliport.

The other registered heliports in the country are in Uni Hospital - Panagyurishte and the University Hospital "St. Marina" - Varna. According to the plans, soon there should be eight such heliports in Bulgaria. In minister Gvozdeykov’s words, the first Leonardo S.p.A medical helicopter will undergo final tests in Italy and is due to arrive in Bulgaria on January 31.
