The digital asset company Nexo has filed a lawsuit against Bulgaria for over 3 billion dollars, BTA reported. Nexo explains that "the amount of the arbitration claim is determined by the significant material and reputational damages resulting from the actions of the Bulgarian state authorities during the now terminated, repressive investigation against the company, its employees and managers."

A year ago, on January 12, the law-enforcement authorities conducted an operation against the Nexo crypto lender, and four people were charged as defendants in the investigation against the company. They were investigated for leading and participating in an organized criminal group with the aim of money laundering, tax crimes, computer fraud and unlicensed banking activity at home and abroad since 2018.

The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office terminated the criminal proceedings against Nexo on December 22, 2023 due to lack of sufficient evidence of a committed crime.
