In a statement, the Supreme Bar Council opposed the conducted procedure for the election of the two Constitutional Court judges from the parliamentary quota, Borislav Belazelkov /We Continue the Change/ and Desislava Atanasova /GERB/, who are expected to be sworn in on January 26. The lawyers point out that the National Assembly has formally complied with the procedure, but "in-essence legitimises decisions taken in advance".

The declaration emphasizes that the procedure violated the constitutional principles of openness, transparency, publicity and justification of the choice aimed at ensuring the independence of the authorities. According to the Supreme Bar Council, the Constitution was violated by setting a nine-year term for the newly elected judges. The Supreme Bar Council calls on Parliament to revoke its decision.

The ''Justice for All'' initiative is planning a protest on Wednesday evening against the election of the two constitutional judges.
