In order for high school students to stay in Bulgaria, fees in state universities will be abolished

The government proposes to waive tuition fees for students and doctoral students in public higher education institutions, in fields with a state subsidy. 

This would facilitate access to higher education regardless of social and financial status and would also help demographic policy. Due to the large difference in fees for different universities, the territorial distribution of students is uneven. A number of European countries offer free higher education, which attracts some of the Bulgarian high school students. Abolition of fees will make Bulgarian higher education institutions more attractive when choosing a life path abroad or in Bulgaria, the reasons state. The measure will take effect this academic year.
