European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders says he expects sentences from a reformed justice system in Bulgaria

In an interview for the BNR, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders stated the justice system in some member countries, including Bulgaria, needs to be reformed.

He noted it is very important to change the laws but it is not easy to change the situation with new laws. According to Didier Reynders there is a very clear commitment for a change in the situation in Bulgaria, but the next step is to put it in practice.

In a parallel with Romania and the investigation of representatives of the upper echelon of power, the European commissioner said there were no such cases in Bulgaria, and added there were reports by investigative journalists but they do not reach the courtroom. Making a comparison with other member countries, this is a very important monitoring element. The end of the process has to be reached, it is not enough to start an investigation, it has to reach the court, he said.
