Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov confirmed on his return from Munich that he would resign on 6 March, as provided for in the government rotation agreement. Asked what would happen if the National Assembly did not vote on his resignation, he said that the cabinet would continue to carry out its duties.

"The rotation makes sense if we implement our government programme and follow Bulgaria's European path," the prime minister said.

Commenting on the dispute with GERB over who should lead the foreign ministry once FM Mariya Gabriel takes over as head of government, Nikolai Denkov stressed the need to find a mutually satisfactory solution.

"There needs to be contact with foreign partners, and the easiest way to do that is to simply swap places with Ms Gabriel," the prime minister said. In his words, there is still a need to discuss why this is a problem for the other side.
