EC gives green light for "Struma" highway section near Kresna

Bulgaria has received a green light from the European Commission for the design and construction of an unfinished section of the "Struma" highway. This will make it possible for work on the last section of the highway between Krupnik and Kresna to start. Studies will also be made for a new route outside the Kresna gorge.

In February, Minister of Regional Development, Andrey Tsekov, promised that during the construction of the section outside the Kresna gorge, the builders would comply as much as possible with the protection of biodiversity. The area near Kresna in Southwestern Bulgaria preserves an extremely rich biodiversity.
